Like every Casement project, this home began with four quiet hours spent watching an ordinary morning.
The Casement Morning Visit
The brief
Leah and Mark Kuiper loved their cottage but not its narrow galley kitchen or its tired upstairs bathroom. They wanted both rooms to feel like the lake outside: bright, calm and easy.
What the morning showed us
The kitchen doorway was a traffic jam between the back door, the fridge and the path to the dock. Wet towels ended up on every chair.
What we made
A kitchen opened to the porch, with the fridge moved out of the path
Painted ash cabinetry built in our workshop
Honed marble counters and a deep farmhouse sink
A drying wall with oak pegs by the back door
A bathroom with a freestanding tub and oak vanity
Both rooms were installed in eleven weeks, with the kitchen finished on a single Tuesday.
