Like every Casement project, this home began with four quiet hours spent watching an ordinary morning.
The Casement Morning Visit
The brief
A Chicago family wanted their dune house to feel lived in from the first weekend, with room for cousins, friends and a large dog, and nothing too precious to sit on.
What the morning showed us
We visited on a Saturday. Everyone gathered in the double-height living room at sunset, but there was nowhere to sit together, and every bedroom faced the parking area.
What we made
A deep modular sofa sized for twelve, in washable linen
Bedrooms reoriented toward the dunes with new built-in beds
Oak benches and hooks at every door for sandy gear
Warm lighting layered for long summer evenings
Everything was installed in one visit, the week before Memorial Day.
